Scouts BSA Troop 934 For Girls Launches In Mt. Juliet Community Features Local Events News by Krys Midgett - May 1, 2019May 1, 20190 Girls are not new to the Boy Scouts of America. Girls have participated in Venturing, Sea Scouts and Exploring since the early 1970s, and now the BSA’s Scouting program is open to them, too. As of February 1, 2019, the iconic “Boy Scout” program has been rebranded to “Scouts BSA” to include scouting opportunities to both boys and girls. Unlike the Venturing and Sea Scouts programs that are open to ages 14-21 and are co-ed programs, the new Scouts BSA Program is available for youth ages 11-17, and they will participate in single-gender troops. There are nearly a dozen newly-launched Scouts BSA troops for girls in the Middle Tennessee area. One of those is Troop 934 in Mt. Juliet. Scoutmaster
Overcoming Adversity With Style Community Features News by Krys Midgett - May 1, 2019May 1, 20190 Ari Vail has had seven surgeries and three chronic illnesses. She was taken out of school and homeschooled because of her health. She even has a service dog named Artemis “Moose” who accompanies her almost everywhere. Vail took dance lessons for ten years, until she had to have surgery on both her feet. Dance is as close as she had ever come to being a “pageant girl.” So when she received a letter from a pageant system, just about a year ago, she was confused and amused at the same time. Her mom thought it was funny, as well. After giving the letter some thought, Vail decided that it might be a good way to meet
Keto Kuisine – Autumn Squash Soup Let's Get Healthy Recipes by Livi West - May 1, 2019May 1, 20190 It’s time for Valentine’s, and I’m craving my love: the delectable, succulent, fulfilling treat that is called Autumn Squash Soup. If you’re as addicted to this nectar of the gods as I am, you are probably experiencing withdrawals, too. The only thing I do NOT love about Autumn Squash Soup at that bread restaurant (besides the tempting smell of bread) is the amount of carbohydrates per serving. It turns out that it tastes like dessert because it’s full of sugars. Since I switched to a Keto lifestyle last spring, I only allowed myself two bowls at the restaurant this last fall. Yes, I am told I was very difficult to be around, until I decided to take my cravings into
Local Perspective – February Community Features Mt Juliet History News by Ray Justice - May 1, 2019May 1, 20190 My entire life has been spent in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. It is a small town established in 1835 and then incorporated as a city in 1972. It’s always been known as a wonderful community to raise a family. I was brought home from St. Thomas Hospital to Mt. Juliet in 1962 and was raised on a small farm consisting of about 17 acres of woods and pasture off of Nonaville Road. Our only pastimes were hunting and fishing in Cedar Creek, catching as many bream and bass as we felt like we could clean. Hunting squirrels, rabbit, and deer were the highlights of our days, and then came the Mt. Juliet Little League in 1968. Our city was
The World According To George – February Community Features Mt Juliet History News Uncategorized by George Hedges - May 1, 2019May 1, 20190 I remember as a young teen wading in Cedar Creek while fly fishing both banks. I always put on my big rubber boots so that the snapping turtles would not bite my toes. I explored the fields and forests in Mt. Juliet as though it was the wild west and I was the first human there. Life was good then…exciting and challenging. I rode my bicycle each morning during the summer of 1963 at 3:00 a.m. to work at “Whitsits Creek Boat Dock,” currently Cedar Creek Marina. My job required that I had to be there before the fishermen arrived. I earned 45 cents per hour at that time. I was in the money!!! Soon, I decided that a motor

Credibility: The Social Trust Factor Community Features News by Oscar Smith - May 1, 2019June 18, 20190 Credibility The Social Trust FactorBy Oscar SmithMJFM.Live Radio and Mt Juliet’s OwnTV ChannelMt. Juliet, TN has taken plenty of time to understand. The Land Between The Lakes is no quick study. For me building an online persona and brand began with the most basic aspects including building a core message.1Big1.com and MJFM.Live both are being broadcast from here. Building up trust was essential for us. There could be many different reasons why communities we do business in are reluctant to engage with us. One of the most common reasons is that they don't trust us. We have all the pretty colors, bells and whistles for our online presence but we lack credibility. We simply lack the trust factor. In real life and
Familiar Face, New Name Local Business Spotlight News Restaurant Reviews by Livi West - May 1, 2019May 1, 20190 Over 9 years ago, Courtney’s opened up next to Shiloh’s Music, where it quickly became a fixture in our town. Large portions of perfectly prepared meat and three options, delectable desserts and the obligatory glass of sweet tea make it the ideal place to eat dinner when you don’t feel like messing up the dishes at home. I know I have never managed to roast my pork shoulder quite as tenderly, anyway. Tom Courtney says he has been in the restaurant business “all my life, basically. My parents owned a restaurant the day I was born.” He grew up making food and serving it to the customers. That being said, it didn’t necessarily come easily to him. When he was
