The home of John and Carrie McGavock, the plantation was the site of the “five bloodiest hours” of the Civil War on November 30, 1864. During the Battle of Franklin almost 10,000 soldiers were killed. Mrs. McGavock graciously offered her home to serve as a Confederate field hospital. Hundreds of wounded were treated and many died. Camp Horizon is designed to meet the special needs of children undergoing treatment, as well as offer a fun environment where they can participate in typical summertime activities. In addition to a weeklong camp for children undergoing treatment, Tennessee’s Camp Horizon offers a weeklong SIBS Camp for siblings of current or former cancer patients. Camp is provided free of charge to all campers. Camp Horizon is held each summer at Bethany Hills Campground in Kingston Springs, TN, just outside of Nashville.
