Oh, What A Life! Mayor Hutto

Growing up in Watertown, Tennessee, Randall Hutto would have never pictured himself in politics. After he graduated from Watertown High School, he went on to Middle Tennessee State University for his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education, then obtained his Master’s Plus 30 from Trevecca Nazarene College. He always wanted to help people, so he became a teacher.
As a lifelong resident of Wilson County, Hutto was right at home teaching at Lebanon High School. His subjects were U.S. History, Math, and Physical Education.

For 16 years, he was also the Assistant Varsity Football Coach and was the head coach of the Blue Devils boys varsity basketball team for 12 years. He went on to become the Assistant Director of Schools of the Lebanon Special School District in 2003, after nearly two decades at Lebanon High.
Hutto still had no aspirations to go into politics. He said that
several people kept suggesting he run for Mayor. He does enjoy serving people and thought he’d give it a try to see if it was a good fit. It must have been a great fit because he is now into his third term.
He still believes in helping people and doesn’t think that it matters if you are a Democrat, Republican or Independent. We are all in this together and after the same end goal: to take care of Wilson County and the people who call it home. One of the issues that Hutto tried to address is the homeless
population in the county. He says there are more homeless here than most people know. There are a few shelters who take in the homeless, but he is working with the city on ways to help them get the help they need.
A typical day in the life of the Mayor is very busy and rarely ends. He will have meetings scheduled all day, citizens come in with issues that he has to address, and he tries to go to community events and fundraisers that he gets invited to at night and on weekends. He even has to play catch up at the office on nights and weekends.
On the occasional day off, he likes to work in his yard and spend time with his family. His wife, Paula, deserves a lot of credit. She has to share him with all of Wilson County and supports him fully. She and
Randall have been happily married for over thirty years. They have three kids: Alex, Megan, and Brett.
If you have concerns, complaints, or compliments, Mayor Hutto (or another
government official) attends a Chamber event on the last Wednesday of every month.

The Mt. Juliet Chamber hosts “Good Morning, Wilson County” at different locations in Mt. Juliet. Visit their website for the times and locations. Hutto also goes to Watertown and Lebanon Chamber events on the same day. It’s a busy life for the Mayor of Wilson County. So, be patient!
