Is There A Ghost At Playhouse 615?
Just in time for Spooky Season, Playhouse 615 gears up to present its scariest play yet – The Woman in Black, a ghost play – adapted for the stage by Stephen Mallatratt from the book by Susan Hill.
The Woman in Black is the second longest-running play in London’s West End, just behind Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap.
Susan Hill’s novel was written in 1983 and adapted for British television in 1989. In 2012, it was adapted for film, starring Daniel Radcliffe as Arthur Kipps, and that was followed up with a sequel in 2014.
The play’s website calls it the most terrifying stage experience ever and Playhouse 615 expects their version to be just as scary as the London production.
Playhouse 615 has been given exclusive rights to the play and will present the play as the Middle Tennessee premiere.
The Woman in Black runs October 20 – November 5; performances are at 7:30 pm Friday and Saturday evenings, and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday evenings. Tickets are $18.00 and can be purchased via Eventbrite or by calling the theatre box office at 615-319-7031.
The story follows Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer tasked with sorting through the papers of a recently deceased client, Alice Drablow, in a far-flung location in the north of England. At her funeral, he encounters the woman in black whose very mention spreads fear. Alone, he goes to the isolated Eel Marsh House to manage Mrs. Drablow’s estate and he is terrorized by the sighting of the frightful woman.
Before “Paranormal Activity” there was the Woman in Black. If you don’t believe in ghosts, you will by the end of the performance.
The Woman In Black, starring Lucy Turner and Sawyer Latham, opens Oct. 20th.
