Camp Horizon: A Magical Place

Beyond the Horizon’s Camp Horizon is a camp for children who have or have had cancer. Camp Horizon is designed to meet the special needs of children undergoing treatment, as well as offer a fun environment where they can participate in typical summertime activities. In addition to a weeklong camp for children undergoing treatment, Tennessee’s Camp Horizon offers a weeklong SIBS Camp for siblings of current or former cancer patients. Camp is provided free of charge to all campers. Camp Horizon is held each summer at Bethany Hills Campground in Kingston Springs, TN, just outside of Nashville.

Camp Horizon’s Oncology Camp is open to children ages 6 to 17 who have or have survived cancer. Children. SIBS Camp is open to children ages 6 to 17 whose sibling is a current or former cancer patient. SIBS Camp is designed to meet the special emotional needs of the well child whose family has been affected by cancer.

Campers are supervised by trained volunteer counselors who help provide a memorable and safe camping experience. Counselors come from all over the community and include doctors, nurses, and college students. Many former campers return to Camp Horizon as counselors. The camper-to-counselor ratio is 3 to 1 for the Oncology Camp and 4 to 1 for SIBS camp. In addition, Camp Horizon has a Counselor-in-Training program for older teens who want to develop leadership skills while being a positive influence on children who have or have had cancer, and their siblings.

It costs roughly $500 for one camper to attend Camp Horizon for a week. Camp is provided free of charge for campers thanks to donations from the public, like you. Please consider donating to Camp Horizon and give a child a much-needed week of camp.
In 2014 The American Cancer Society cut funding for Camp Horizon and camps like it. After that, a few counselors came together and created Beyond the Horizon, a nonprofit organization to keep Camp Horizon Alive! Camp Horizon now runs solely on donations!
