Random Acts Of Kindness

In a world where you hear daily about so many negative events, such as bombings, mass shootings, and kids being charged with horrific crimes, I think we all need to take a step back and look for the good.

Yes, good does still exist in this world. It is just not splashed all over the news like the negative things. I believe that more good happens than bad, we just don’t see it. I am writing this column to highlight those good things that happen around us every day. I am looking for good things like random acts of kindness or a person going out of their way to help a stranger who is having a bad day. I’m looking for acts done by ordinary everyday people who just decide, on that day, to do something nice for somebody else.

So I need your help, I need you to send to me stories of any good deeds your hear about to s.register.lbl@gmail.com. These stories will be the basis of future columns.
The inspiration for this column came when I was in Kroger the other day. As I was doing my shopping, I noticed people carrying around single roses.

From past experience, I knew that this was usually the result of somebody passing out roses. I smiled and thought to myself that there are still nice people in the world and it made my day. Upon further investigation, I found out that it was a twelve-year-old boy who begged his mother to buy roses and then proceeded to walk around the store and give them to people.

When I asked the young boy why he did this, he said, “Because it makes thirteen people’s day.” I asked him,’thirteen people?’ I thought you only bought a dozen roses.” He said, “the 12 people who I give a rose to and my day.” I told him he made more than 13 people’s day, because he also made my day. His mom told me that he has been doing this for years and he just likes to make people smile.

So my challenge to you is to go out, look for those random acts of kindness and report back to me. In the process, I hope that you begin to see that the good still exists and is there to inspire us all.
Be kind to each other!
